Born in Málaga, Spain on August 10, 1960, he first wanted to became soccer player until a broken foot sidelined his dreams at the age of fourteen. Then he starting engaging in drama classes that eventually led him to the National Theatre of Spain. It was then that he caught attention of the movie director Pedro Amodóvar, who cast him for his first movie Laberinto de Pasione (Labyrinth of Passion) (1982). But it wasn't till 1992 that he gain America's attention in The Mambo Kings. Since then, he stared many movies, becoming the most popular latin actor in Hollywood.
