Q. Do you get recognized a lot on the street?

A. Sometimes, in the oddest places by the most bizarre people. There was some guy at the urinal beside me once who said, "Aren't you in Nickelback?" And I was like, "Yeah, can we talk about this in two minutes?"

Another time, we were in the mall, in a kids' clothing store to get something for my son, and this woman who's got to be 60 walks up and says, "Aren't you in Nickelback?" I wanted to say "how do you know that?"

The weirdest ones are when people come up to you and say, "Are you who I think you are?" How do I answer that?

Q. What do you have in your pockets?

A. (laughs) Nosy little bugger, aren't you? A knife . . . a big knife. No, actually, just a little jackknife, like a Swiss Army knife. Some cake, also known as cash, and in the little pocket, a guitar pick, just in case. I didn't bring my guitar, but if I had brought my guitar and not the pick, then I wouldn't have had a pick.

I always have a guitar pick. I'm kind of superstitious that way. I've got a guitar pick in every pair of pants I own.
