The 28-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed another imperious campaign for The Gunners, playing an instrumental role in guiding Arsene Wenger's side to the UEFA Champions League final.

Henry becomes the first player in 59 years since the inauguration of the award to scoop the top trophy on three separate occasions, bettering the efforts of Sir Stanley Matthews, Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes and Gary Lineker who have all won it twice.

At the start of the season Henry was handed the captain's armband due to Patrick Vieira's surprise move to Juventus and he has flourished with the extra responsibility, breaking the club's all-time goalscoring record and leading his side to a first ever European Cup final.

Henry will receive his award at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, in London, on Thursday May 11.
