Intro
When i was at college, the students from the arts department were not getting along welll with the people from the sciences. The reason was that at the capmus i was the science students were regarded as better and more brainy. This now became an object of wonder for me and it still is. Is science superior to art? This is what i intend to grapple with in this short entry.
What is science?
Science is a method of discovery. Science never creates. it merely obseves and mixes to come up with new combinations. That is why without hydrogen, no hydrogen bomb can be made. the point is that without components the scientist deals with he is virtually useless. Science takes form creation and merely shows us other forms of thing which are merely new combinations of the things already there.
In this way science is an non-creative discipline or call it a hybrid creation process. Such a process does not come upu with newe things. it merely comes up with new forms of the old things. This is not to say science is bad but all it does is unravel the hidden and in this way it has been a great aide to the development of human kind.
Science appeals to the fundamental principle that nothing can be created. This is true a principle because science is limited to the physical domain. Science will never deal with thought processes. It will merely deal with the manifestations of the thought processes. I hope psychologists agree with me here. To illustarate the point, science wil never tell you that i am thinking of killing you. It may only attempt at telling you that i am angry hence there is a chance that i may get violent, one of the follow- ups being killing you. Science will only detect the effect of my thinking of killing you i.e. the anger manifested by a rise in blood pressure etc. In short, science is slow since it waits for symptoms of an act for it to work.
What is art?
Art is the mother of creation. Before everything there was art. Even before light there was art .Art was there before art itself existed. Art was there before creation because creation itself is a product of art and as a product cannot exist before its maker art preexisted nature. Nature is the ultimate manifestation of art. Nature tells us that art is the supreme. For believes i say God needed art to create the world.
Art is the first thing in the world. Art is explained by science. If one comes to explain an occurence, it factually follows that the occurence happened before the explanation and that is what science tells us. On the same analogy, without the occurence, there is no explanation, save daydreaming or fantasy. In the same way, since science comes to explain art, then it follows that without art there is no science. If one lives on the condition that another exists, then the one who makes the existence of the other possible is superior to the other. That is to say, since science merely explains art then it factually follows that there is no science without art.
In the same vein, since there is no science without art then it follows logically that art is superior to science since science's existence is based on the existence of art. Art preexisted science. And as a matter of logical inference science is just a branch of art. One has to be artful inorder to come up with the nuclear bomb!
Art emanantes from the ideal to the physical. Art starts in the air and then beomes visible. Art picks its raw material from nowhere. It is creation all rolled in one! Art is capable of bringing things from negative existence into positive existence. Art even created the things which are now in negative existence! Art is capable of creating things unlike science which is inthe business of mixing things inorder to come up with hybrids. Art creates the pure breeds. Science takes it from there!
Unlike science, art has no foundation. Its foundation is art itself. Art is the immovable mover! The beginning of all things. Science is based on observation. Art is based on creation and creation is art itself!
In conclusion, Art is the mother of science, to make but one understatement! |
