Lille beats Lyon

Nigeria striker Peter Odemwingie scored twice and Lille beat record five-time consecutive champion Lyon 4-0 in the French league on Saturday.

Odemwingie scored in each half to increase his league tally to 14 goals and put third-place Lille in a strong position to clinch the final Champions League place.

With one round left, Lille has 61 points, followed by Marseille on 59 and Rennes on 58.

Because of a far superior goals differential, Lille is likely to only need a point to clinch third place.

Lille, which gave Lyon its first defeat of the season in December and its third Saturday, also had goals from Geoffrey Dernis and Cameroon midfielder Jean Makoun.
