Lyon prepared for Wednesday's meeting with AC Milan in the last eight of the UEFA Champions League with a 1-1 draw against Toulouse FC at the Stade Gerland. The leaders fell behind against the run of play shortly before half-time as Daniel Moreira put Rennes ahead, but parity was quickly restored in the opening minutes of the second period as John Carew equalised from close range. Lyon continued to press forward but were denied by a succession of fine saves from Nicolas Douchez, although Gérard Houllier's side still extended their advantage over second-placed FC Girondins de Bordeaux - who play OGC Nice on Sunday - to 12 points.
