| Kiev long since was famous for the orchards which cultivation was promoted by a soft climate. The first mentions of Kiev "kitchen gardens" (so then named gardens) concern to ÕI–ÕII to centuries. Green plantings flaunted at cells of the Pechersky monastery and before Gold collars. Descriptions ÕVI–ÕVII of centuries testify that almost in each court yard of a city there was a garden. The big gardens decorated only Monastery. Obviously, ïå÷åðñêèå monks, co-operating with Byzantian and Moldavian, have added to traditional pears, apple-trees and cherries new cultures – plums, a mulberry, an apricot, peaches and grapes. In days of Peter I board in Kiev there are the first plantings belonging to the state: exemplary fruit (Ãîñóäàðåâ) and øåëêîâè÷íûé gardens in natural boundary Klov. And in ñðåäèíå ÕVIII centuries the city has received walking park – the Imperial garden. Opening of the Kiev university became the reason of the organisation of the Botanical garden. Then have planted trees and shrubs in the Vladimir hill, have landed poplar avenue along Bibikovsky parkway and for the first time have set with vegetation some the Kiev streets. In the sixties ÕIÕ centuries have appeared Mariinsky and University parks, and in the late seventies – squares on both parties of Gold gate. However, the glory of a "buried in verdure" city was fixed to Kiev first of all thanks to plantings in private manors. Where approximately in the end of ÕVIII centuries also there was a future symbol of a city – a horse-chestnut. As to public parks they served then as pastures for cows-pigs or "rookeries" and toilets for poor prayerful and "tramps". |
